Top positive review. Reviewed in the United States on January 4, I have been a Sony fan for years now. I also did a nice write up about how great their software was sometime ago. I upgraded my computer to do high definition videos. Also bought a blu ray burner to burn the best videos.

I use a Cannon HF S high def video camera. I downloaded the newest Sony Vegas Platinum 10 HD and rendered a beautiful blu ray disc with 25 gigs of movies. Great job as always but took 4 hours.

I downloaded the Power Director 9 Ultra and did another 25 gig disk of movies. They are all high def movies so I do not think there was any difference as they both totaled up to just under 25 gigs as the blu ray disc capacity is 25 gigs.

I was totally surprised that it took only 1 hour and 40 minutes with the Power Director 9 Ultra. The high def movies were just as beautiful as the Sony rendered ones. I really liked the menus with Cyberlink and was thrilled with the outcome.

I still believe that Sony is more stable, as Cyberlink on one occasion had a hic up there was a crash but when I restarted it, it loaded my timeline back up.

It may have been due to the fact that I had a ton of movies ready to render or was just doing things to fast. I would suggest to back up your timeline just in case so you don’t have to place them in order again. But once it started rendering, there was no problem whatsoever.

Sony uses the hard drive to render then burns the disc. Cyberlink burns on the disc, which means the disc drive is running the whole time that it starts to make the movie. I am a little concerned about that, but I think these drives are designed for that kind of work. Saving two and a half hours and nice menus, was the choice for me. Again, I have a beefy new computer with a I-7 processor, 12 gigs of memory and a Nvidia video card and your results may be different. My advice, especially if you are rendering high definition video, would be to download both trial versions and try them for yourself.

The only downside is that I was getting pretty good with Sony, now I will have to learn all of the different things with this software. Burning high def is still a relatively new technology that I am learning about all the time.

I am hoping that this review helps some of those who are attempting to make high definition movies as it is so rewarding to watch the best videos you can make. Great job Cyberlink, you have come a long way with your support of 64 bit! Top critical review. Reviewed in the United States on March 21, I have purchased two CyberLink products within the last year and have used both extensively; PowerDirector 9 and PhotoDirector This review is associated with the PowerDirector program purchased but the problems encountered pertains to both products; more specifically the company and its support or lack of, and it’s apparent attitude toward the customer.

My problem is not an anomaly; read the other reviews. I will say that both programs did operate moderately well when I was able to access them, each crashing occasionally.

PowerDirector 9: Recently, when I tried to create a disc of my daughter’s wedding video I filmed in Hawaii, a message popped up saying PowerDirector 9 was not able to complete the task. I thought I was getting updates automatically that was in fact the setting in its profile. However, after exploring the problem I found that I had never received any update from CyberLink, which is possibly why some crashes had occurred and it was unable to create the disc.

I attempted to download the latest update from CyberLink’s website and once completed was prompted to enter my activation code. When I entered the code I was advised the activation code was not valid. Now I cannot even access the program. I have a wedding video completed which I cannot access let alone create a disc of. Additionally, I’m not able to access the program at all for anything else! I have contacted CyberLink several times and the company is not responsive, other than sending a receipt email reply with no solution.

It is unbelievable a company can operate in such a manner. CyberLink must not be relying on repeat customers. When I purchased PhotoDirector , I was to receive the future version as a ‘free upgrade. When I failed to hear from CyberLink, I contacted them not once but twice to inquire about the upgrade I was to receive. I was eventually told I would receive the free upgrade; that CyberLink would contact me.

They did not contact me. I have been looking at Lightroom 4 very seriously especially in light of frustration with CyberLink’s customer support. FWIW: Adobe Lightroom is the basis of PhotoDirector, being the original photo editing software program and the absolute leader in this market niche. I have contacted CyberLink regarding this issue, just like I did regarding the PowerDirector 9 problem. Again, the CyberLink company is totally unresponsive, apparently not interested in solving this problem either.

Maybe the CyberLink marketing strategy is to ignore it’s customers’ request for assistance in hope of forcing them to purchase new products as the ‘fix’ to their current problem s. That would explain much of what appears to be going on. CyberLink would benefit financially from additional sales and at the same time not expend any resources in providing support.

When I decided to submit this review I read some of the other reviews and see a pattern that should not be ignored if you are considering purchasing a CyberLink product such as PowerDirector or PhotoDirector. You may never have a problem requiring any contact with CyberLink, or need to upgrade that program, or need to obtain a patch, or need to reinstall the program, in which case you may be alright, and I wish you well, hoping that will be the case. It sure has not been my experience. Regarding reviews: In reading the reviews I suspect some of the positive reviews, as mentioned by other reviewers, may have been submitted by shills.

Also, notice how many positive, dare I say disproportionate, reviews are submitted via the Amazon Vine program Amazon provides Vine participants with free products for review. Could it be that CyberLink is trying to counter some of the negative reviews?

Even if wrong, notice the positive reviews do not address this company’s lack of customer support. Bottom Line: I purchased legitimate righteous CyberLink products and have proven such to CyberLink, yet I cannot get simple upgrades because at a minimum the activation codes no longer work. And now I can’t even access my programs.

CyberLink either can’t or won’t help resolve these problems which they have caused. Again, so that you can see what you will have to deal with, this is the most recent correspondence from CyberLink regarding porblems with my trying to get just access to my PowerDirector program, all because I tried to update that program.

They state they can’t find my proof of purchase my purchase of PowerDirector 9 because I didn’t purchase from them. They seem to be able to contact me continually trying to sell upgrades to this specific program.

This is a more subtle point but even more important. I am having the same problem with the PhotoDirector program and I did purchase that product directly from CyberLink and they couldn’t find that proof of purchase either. Sort by. However, I find this video editing software pretty easy to use. There is no way I have used all of the features, but the ones I have used have worked pretty well. The program is pretty intuitive to use, which is important for a newb like me. I have experience with one other video editing software, which is Pinnicle from years ago.

This software required a separate fire wire card at the time, because USB 2. Many complained about that program, but I never had problems with it. Of course, I wasn’t trying to really make edited movies with it.

Only rendering the straight video out of my Sony handycam. I tried watching some of the tutorials online on youtube, but I found them way too boring to tolerate. Luckily, the software is easy enough to use that I haven’t had to. The one issue I have come across so far, is that you need to edit your audio tracks in a different screen.

I would really like the ability to trim audio tracks in reference to the size of the video track. Instead, you have to click on Wave Editor which opens up, and closes the video editing window. So you have to basically guess at what length you want. I have tried to count the video size, as it has a time rule at the top of the tracks view, and then try to edit the audio appropriately but it is a real pain to do the math, and really hard to see an accurate time frame, even if you stretch the tracks out.

So, I would like to be able to clop and manipulate audio tracks in the same window as the video editing screen. I would like to be able to place a marker on the tracks and just end them where I want to on that screen, and also adjust volume and stuff. One other issue I have had, and I am not sure this is an issue with the software, is that my voice overs sound muddy.

I am not sure if it is the mic I bought, my sound card, my settings of either the software, or the sound card mic input. I have turned the mic input all the way up, and the recordings sound hollow, and low volume.

It does not sound like saturation clipping to me, but maybe. I will try turning the mic input back down, but that will make the low amplitude problem worse.

I have a slow computer, so the program stutters a little while editing, but luckily, I can still manage. I have an HP Slimline computer. I think it is a or something. It is a mini tower. It has the max it can hold for ram which is 2 gig, and an Nvidia internal video card LE, or something that shares mother board memory.

When I get some more money, I will upgrade with a faster computer, with more ram, and a 64 bit operating system. For now though, it works for me, although very slowly If you want to see some videos I have edited with it, no matter how amateur they might be You can go to youtube and type “themarkfellows” into the search feature.

I hope this helps, and if anyone has any suggestions about the audio, or any other point in this review, please feel free to add comments! Mark :. I have been trying my hand at video editing for a while, and I am not a Mac user, so I needed something cheap, powerful, fast but for Windows. I think I got a steal! Whatever, you do, get the bit.

I own a copy of NCH as well as Corel, and this is definitely better. So kudos to the QA team. I have a i-7 bit machine, and it actually is able to use the bits. I have not yet experienced a crash. I am told it has phone support, but it costs money. Complicated SW needs some ramp up time – so make sure you read the manual. I have used a number of programs in the past mainly on vista and xp systems , Ulead’s Video Studio program as well as Premiere Elements by Adobe.

When I upgraded my system recently to a faster processor and higher memory, as well as a system that uses Window’s 7, I went with Powerdirector 9. My experience has been mainly positive. I had no difficulty installing the software, it started up easily enough and the interface was reasonably inuitive — actually, easier to understand in the beginning than premiere elements was.

How much of that is due to my new system quite quick with 6 core AMD processor and 8 GB of memory and how much is due to the fact that PowerDirector is able to operate in 64 bits versus 32 bits for most of the other software packages I have used is hard to say.

I have not had it lock up or crash on me to this point used for about a month. The biggest things that I dislike about PowerDirector 9 have to do with the library. You can up load media files into the library, but they do not stay there, unless you actually save your production to disk.

You cannot rename video files or organize them otherwise within the program. Basically, you are limited to organizing by name or by date. I would much prefer a program with a more robust organizing system that would allow more precise organization of files. Over all, I have found the program easy to use and with the speed at which it operates, I will continue to use it, despite my quibbles with it.

Edit: Just wanted to give my experience after using Powerdirector for several months now. I am still quite happy with the program.

I have had no crashes or problems. I have burned multiple disks, both blu ray and regular DVDs without problem. To burn a blu ray disk with a little over an hour of footage on it take about an hour to render. Burning of course depends on the speed of the disks that you use. Better just to edit it all yourself the old-fashioned way. After using Pinnacle Studio v. I had also used Adobe Premiere in the past. I wanted something with an interface similar to Pinnacle Studio’s workflow-themed tabs.

Before I blindly upgraded to the latest version of that product, I reviewed what was out there. When I saw that Powerdirector 9 was designed for bit systems, all I needed to see were some good reviews of the product, and I was sold. The interface still took a little getting used to, but it wasn’t a huge hurdle to overcome. I like it, and am satisfied with my purchase.

One small problem I had was with the DVD menus, or sub-menus to be precise. When I selected another main menu other than the default, the sub-menus did not change – they were still in the style of the default main menu for those familiar with it, it’s the red “Movie Marquee”-style menu. One request to the developers for the next version – please include a toggle wheel in the editing tab. I’d like to have more precise control in my edits.

One person found this helpful. PD 9 won. I also have used two versions of Windows Moviemaker and Serif X My computer is a dual core, 64 bit Vista, with 4GB of Ram. His rendering speed is about 3 times as fast as mine. It takes me 8 to 10 minutes to render about a minute of HD video on my PC. This is not a problem for me as I usually don’t do video of over 5 minutes in length.

PD 9 does a lot of video editing well, but is not really simple to use as it has so many possible editing functions. It does have a lot of user friendly titles, transitions, ect but I don’t use most of them.

One of the big pluses with PD 9 is the amount of good video tutorials available from both Cyberlink and on YouTube. They are excellent and can help you through any questions you might have about PD 9. Be aware that the tutorials labeled PD 9 contain most of the additional info that PD 9 can do over the previous versions and you might have to view a tutorial on a previous version to learn how to do some things.

The tutorials are available and I have found them very helpful. One of the Cons for PD 9 is its propensity to crash if you ask it to do something it can’t. The trial version of PD 9 was worse than the purchased version, probably due to several updates available on the purchased version. This is offset by setting an automatic backup feature in the “preferences” section on PD 9.

I set mine at “every 10 minutes”, but could be set lower or higher. I find that the more experience I get with PD 9, the less problems I have. Some of that “operator error” going on. Overall a great program and I am well satisfied. Update: March 31, I am still using PD 9. There are several updated versions available, but I have not found the added features would add anything to the way I use PD 9. There was a lot of “operator error” going on when I first started with PD 9. Some of the crashes were apparently addressed by Cyberlink, but the majority were mine.

I haven’t had it crash in over 18 months and have been rendering a good amount of MXP HD video with it. Very happy with it at present. I purchased PowerDirector 9 because I have become a regular uploader to YouTube and I wanted a bit more flexible and powerful editor than Windows Moviemaker. Years ago, in the days of cameras that made tapes GASP! My first digital camcorder was a Kodak Playsport and Moviemaker didn’t really do all I wanted. I made a good decision.

After loading the bit version both and bit version come in the box I was off and running. Since I was not a total tyro, I was able to be “functional” with the product almost instantly. I experimented with the capabilities and made a couple of two-minute videos trying many of the transitions, titles, PIP, and other functions. I quickly learned that this is, er POWERful software. The learning curve is not steep, but it is certainly long. Before you purchase this package, especially if you plan to install the bit version, you should analyze your computer equipment’s capabilities.

This system worked satisfatorily with the PowerDirector 9 software. I added more memory total 8GB , got the fastest HD available and saw some minor improvements in performance, but actually not enough to justify the cost of the additional hardware. There are tutorials on the Internet, but they all seem to be generic, amateurish and too broad.

I wish there were more tutorials devoted to “How do I do this effect? We need a “Missin Manual I am happy with my purchase. I would recommend this software to both the novice and the more experienced, though I warn you that patience will be necessary as you learn.

You can see some results of using this software on my YouTube channel nov I’m very happy with this purchase. I purchased from Amazon because the price was right and I have purchased a lot of stuff here.
